Copyright Notice

This Copyright Notice explains the ownership and permitted use of original material published on US Academic Scores and distinguishes that material from third-party assessment data, reports and other externally sourced content.

Website Content

Original text, page organization, data presentation, custom charts, interface elements, software components and other original material published on US Academic Scores may be protected by copyright and other applicable intellectual property laws.

Copyright protection applies to the original expression and presentation of material rather than to facts, statistics or public-domain information that may appear within a page.

Education Assessment Data

US Academic Scores presents statistics and information originating from organizations including NCES, OECD, IEA and the Nation’s Report Card. Ownership and reuse rights for those underlying datasets, reports, assessment frameworks and publications remain subject to the terms established by their respective publishers.

The inclusion of an official statistic on US Academic Scores does not transfer ownership of the underlying data or publication.

Original assessment organizations remain the authoritative source for their own datasets, reports, technical documentation and licensing conditions.

Facts and Statistics

Individual facts, numerical results and statistical observations are distinct from the original written and visual presentation in which they appear.

When using an assessment statistic, the original assessment organization should be cited where appropriate, particularly when the value originates from an official dataset or report.

Use of factual information does not permit copying substantial portions of original explanatory text, page structure or custom presentation from US Academic Scores.

Permitted References and Links

Public pages may be linked to from websites, articles, research materials and educational resources.

Short quotations may be used where permitted by applicable copyright law and should be accompanied by appropriate attribution and a link to the relevant page when practical.

Use of a link or citation must not imply sponsorship, partnership, endorsement or official affiliation that does not exist.

Reproduction Restrictions

Substantial reproduction of original US Academic Scores content is not permitted except where authorized by law or by prior permission.

Restricted uses may include:

  • republishing complete or substantially complete articles;
  • copying large portions of original explanatory text;
  • reproducing custom page layouts as a substitute for the original website;
  • systematically republishing original charts or data presentations without appropriate permission;
  • removing attribution or copyright information from protected material;
  • presenting original US Academic Scores material as the work of another publisher.

Data Downloads

CSV or other downloadable data features may provide convenient access to values displayed on a page. Availability of a download does not change the ownership or licensing status of the underlying data.

Where downloaded values originate from an external assessment organization, use of those values remains subject to the rights and conditions associated with the original source.

Charts and Visualizations

Charts may visualize official assessment data while using an original arrangement, design or presentation created for US Academic Scores.

The underlying factual values and the visual presentation should be treated separately. Rights in the source data remain with the relevant source where applicable, while original visual and textual elements may be protected independently.

Third-Party Trademarks and Names

Names such as PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS, NAEP, ICILS, OECD, NCES, IEA and the Nation’s Report Card may appear for identification, source attribution and descriptive purposes.

Third-party names, trademarks, logos and other protected identifiers remain the property of their respective owners. Their use on the website does not imply ownership, sponsorship or endorsement.

Public-Domain and Government Material

Some materials produced by U.S. federal government agencies may not be subject to copyright protection in the United States. Other government-related materials, contractor-produced works, international organization publications or third-party elements may have different rights or licensing conditions.

The legal status of a source should be determined from the terms provided by the organization that published it rather than assumed solely from the fact that it appears on a government or institutional website.
